Welcome to
Progressive Security Ministry

Protecting Faith. Empowering Congregations.

At Progressive Security Ministry, we are committed to building safer houses of worship through informed training, experienced leadership, and a deep understanding of both spiritual and physical protection. Founded by Walter Douglas Lomax—a decorated Mason, military veteran, and retired California peace officer with 39 years of service—our mission is to equip churches with the tools and skills they need to serve and protect their congregations with confidence.

Why We Exist

Today’s world presents unique challenges for churches, from mental health crises and communicable diseases to natural disasters and threats of violence.

Progressive Security Ministry helps congregations prepare for emergencies and respond effectively when the unexpected occurs.

We believe that developing a well-trained church body is the first step in creating a safe worship environment. Our programs are led by experienced instructors in law enforcement, medical, and emergency services, ensuring real-world application and long-term impact.

Walter Douglas Lomax

Founder

My name is Walter Douglas Lomax. I am a Past Master of Harmony Lodge #61 and have been in Masonry for over 35 years. I am a 32 nd Degree Mason as well as a PEHP of the Royal Arch and Past Potentate of the Prince Hall Shrine. I was born in 1954 in the great state of Alabama, attended an all-black school until 1968 when the state mandated were enacted to end segregated school systems. Military veteran from the USAF for 6 years and U.S. Army Reserves for another 4 years. I am a retired peace officer for the State of California with a

combined total of 39 years. Twenty-nine years of that included training and preparing over 40 thousand sworn individuals to work in one of the largest diverse agencies in the state. I have no degree to speak of, however, I do have several years of formal education in both sociology and criminal justice. I am the Chairperson of the Trustee Board as well as Security Ministry at my church and the Vice Chair of a Non-profit established to develop property and programs with the church. I joined the church at an early age during a revival where I attended in short pants and flipflops, alone with my next oldest brother. A brother alone with my other siblings who are still, very much a part in various capacities within the church. The revival was held at St. Paul CME church, but my family church is New Hope Missionary Baptist Church. That is where I was baptized. That has been my church for years until I joined Grace under the Watch Care Program with Pastor Richards. Shortly thereafter, I moved my membership to Grace. I have not regretted one day of that decision, and it has only improved on what a good decision it was with the addition of Pastor Gordon A. Thomas. I have been a part of Rancho Cordova since 1981 and have had a relationship with many members of this church since it was built. I believe in being a part of the neighborhood.

Our Founder

Walter Douglas Lomax, I am a retired Peace Officer for the State of California and have been instrumental in training over 40,000 sworn peace officers during my career. After retirement, I have been fortunate enough to continue to work as a contract employee for the same agency for an additional 15 years while still involved in the same hands-on and instructional training program.
I am a Vietnam Era veteran serving time in the Air Force as well as the Army Reserves. In addition, I have managed to complete several years of advanced education in both Sociology and Criminal justice.
Being raised in the state of Alabama which is a strong Bible Belt within the Southern Baptist structure of religious practices, really solidified my foundation for my moral principals in life.
I am a Husband, Father, Grandfather and Great Grandfather. I have a strong belief that the foundation to a good transition in life is the ability to be able to agree to disagree. Community and a strong diverse atmosphere are two essential elements to promoting a successful social environment.
It is my goal to take my life experiences and help grow your church and community where all who participates can take part in knowing that they have contributed in the moral aspect of leaving this world a better place than they found it.
